Crazy!

We are all alive still this weekend thanks to guardian angels and a lot of luck. Grandpa and Grandma and Karren did a fair bit of hiking that culminated in climbing Sofa Mountain. Although it is probably not considered a really difficult mountain to conquer, for Grandma especially, it was very challenging. The beginning of the trail was beautiful with views including wildflowers and little streams. Even the slopes where the fire raged decades ago were stunning.

But then things started to change and it became a little more difficult.

Then, at least for Grandma, it got downright scary. Not only was it steep but it was horribly windy, hurricane category at least.

Somehow though, we managed to persevere and finally make it to the little marker at the peak to sit finally and just breathe. The top was amazing and the views were out of this world, a little bit like being in a jet. We were so high that we could see all of the mountain ranges around us.

When the journey was finally over, it was much later than anticipated and a good supper and a good sleep made the crazy day a wonderful adventure. Grandma was glad to still be alive! For all you have climbed sofa and are smiling just a bit at Grandma’s reaction to how hard this venture really was, just to let you know, Sofa Mountain has increased its size immensely and the cliffs have evolved over the many years to be tremendously more difficult! Grandpa and Karren just smile because they have become as nimble little goats and climb these mighty rocks with ease. It really isn’t fair.

Grandma and Grandpa also made some tasty canned apple juice and sauce. We can't wait to enjoy it (especially those that are south of the border and can't get to it yet).

Joanie and Alec did some outdoor adventuring too. The spent some time in Moab and it was a great birthday present for Brigham. They celebrated his birthday and made it special even during Covid. We love Brigham so much. He is so infectiously excited for life! He is a blessing in our family.

It was Amy’s Birthday too. Happy happy birthday! We are so grateful for Amy in our family and for the light she has brought to all of us, especially John. There is nothing nicer than seeing them both so happy. It is a wonderful thing. They are also being innovative in what they can do within the bounds of being careful because of Covid. We hope Amy and Brigham both had a wonderful day and wish them a very happy birthday!

Karren and Lisa haven’t had much of a summer holiday. Charts and notes have become something that is the bane of their existence and we all wish we could help them and Adam and Grandpa find an easier way to deal with all the paper work.

Covid is not allowing much movement within the province or between countries and in some ways it has made more work for everyone rather than less. We are truly anxious for the borders to open.

Janet and Adam had a few days off and although that wasn’t nearly enough they did enjoy some time away in Edmonton seeing the sights in that part of the province. We are glad that little Grant is still alive. He jumped into the deep end of a swimming pool at Jackie Rollingson’s house without his life-jacket on and proceeded to sink. Clark tried to rescue him but started sinking along with Grant. Cole Barnett was a true life guard and jumped in for the save. We are grateful that everyone survived. We are not sure if Grant was too terribly traumatized by the event but his mother was!

The days are getting a little shorter and the weather is turning a little colder. With the harvest season starting, one gets a sense that this very short summer is coming to an end far faster than we would like and we are all anxious to grab as much of it as we can before winter sets in.
