When the winter weather is bitterly cold, and there is little to no activity outside because of Covid, and Grandma and Grandpa can’t go anywhere for their holiday week in February, they resort to doing PROJECTS.

Now there are a myriad of projects that can be done, and there is hardly time to think about being bored but sometimes the projects take on a mind of their own.

Grandma was doing her best to keep warm because the furnace quit for a few days. It is getting old and just wasn’t able to keep up to all that was required of the poor, old soul. So, one of the projects was to figure out how to heat the house without a furnace. It was also great project to find someone who could fix the problem quickly.
Grandma and Grandpa kept the fires going and all the stoves and space heaters they could find, and it just happened that the electrician who came to fix the lights knew how to fix furnaces as well so it wasn’t long before the house was nice and cozy again.

But one project always, always leads to another. Grandma and Grandpa finally are taking the plunge and started looking for new appliances and new flooring and maybe even new cupboards. Of course there will be new paint, but there are new pictures and new gadgets galore. So much fun but also what a pain! The electricians changed out the light fixtures but that means the ceiling needs to be patched and painted. Sigh, will it ever end?

Then there are the projects at the farm. They are working on building a new quonset door and the skating pond is coming along just great. Grandpa got one of his projects finished by burning up a pile of sticks and debris out at the farm. It was a bigger job than anticipated. There were permits to get and then starting the fire was a challenge because of the cold. Once the fire really got going, it was very hot but the pile was very large and it took a very long time to burn down and out.

Grandpa’s next project is to start ordering heritage apple trees and learning how to graft. That project sounds like a long time never ending project too.

Janet and Adam had many projects they were trying to accomplish too. Janet and Clark and Grant and little Peter helped Grandma and Grandpa and Karren burn the pile of sticks of course while still being careful to social distance. Grant and Clark liked sleigh riding down some of the steep hills out at the farm and exploring in the trees and bushes.

Karren has had many things on the go. She made these wonderful valentine cookies and then made this awesome cake. It may be an ongoing project to get it all eaten as at least ¾ of it went in the freezer for future enjoyment.

She also has an amazing puzzle going. That is definitely a hard project.

Lisa is knee deep in projects dealing with work and Young Women's. We do hope she has time for some projects that will involve travelling home or to Utah a few times this coming year.
Joanie and Alec and Brigham and JR have a few projects going as well. They have a new little green house and are growing plants and getting ready for spring. They finished painting and decorating the basement as well (a large project), and took a break outside.

John and Amy have been working hard on their project of getting a place ready for a new little baby girl. Definitely that project will be an eternal one. Amy also recently published a book with her dad (a long and hard project!) and it is quickly becoming a best seller!

Hopefully the Covid vaccines are available for everyone soon and we can start new and awesome projects that allow us all to be together again once in a while. That would be nice.
