Sleeping In??

One would think that in January (and now February) on those dark, cold mornings that everyone would just take the opportunity to pamper themselves on the weekends and sleep in like Grandma and Grandpa tried to do.

Alas, that is never the case. There is always so many adventures waiting and so many things that can be done.

Grandpa happened to look out the window and realized that the brand new tree that they had planted in the front of the house had been rubbed raw by the deer.

SO he was determined to check out the situation right then and while they were doing that they might as well go on a run.

They had to dress up very warm and it took a while so when they got home they decided they should do YOGA just to round of the exercise a bit more.

They used the tape that Janet gave them several years ago and it is just right for them.

Of course it was more like Yoga for the old in body but it works for Grandma and Grandpa.

Then, of course, the clouds had lifted and the sun came out occasionally and so they went to the farm to check out the trees and make sure they hadn’t been eaten and while they were there they went on an excursion to see what was going on near the creek. They discovered that while most water was frozen solid, some of it was still quite quickly flowing especially near the free flowing springs that fed the creeks.

They discovered that there were some carcasses of deer that had been killed by hunters and eaten by something

and they were delighted to find the pond in excellent skating condition.

So they phoned Janet, and she and Clark and Grant came out to the farm to try out the pond with their new skates (while socially distancing of course). The sun was just going down so they didn’t have much time but they made the most of it.

When they got home, Grandma and Grandpa had supper but they tried out some new recipes that were delicious and had no salt or sugar because they are trying to control their blood pressures.

After that, they made some hot chocolate and put it in some thermos bottles and got some cups and spoons and marshmallows and they dressed up really, really warm and took their star books and treats and walked to the spill gates to look at the stars. Again, it was rather cloudy so Orion was about the only constellation that was visible but it was fun. When they got home, Grandpa took some time to study his talk that he had to give in Church the next day and then they turned on another Star Wars movie on Dad’s new wondrous TV. So much for their plan of sleeping in.

It was Grant’s birthday on Sunday, and we are so grateful for him in our family! Where would life be without Grant?

He was greeted by a beautiful world that morning where all of the trees were white with frost.

He woke up at 6:00 asking if it was time to have his birthday yet. He had to be patient though and it was worth it.

It was Adam's birthday as well this past week! Although life sometimes is hard, Adam always finds a new way through it. We are so grateful for his persistence!

Joanie and Alec have little time to relax much in the mornings. Brigham and JR keep busy with Brigham's new plants and JR being an artist. It has been a bit snowy in Utah (and warm...it is confusing), so they have been enjoying the weather.

It seems that there was no time for anyone to sleep in. Amy and John had chores to do and they gave their little chickens a feast and they were hopping excited to get it.

Amy finds this new little baby to be quite the kicker and it certainly hasn't figured out how to be calm in the middle of the night.

Everyone, then, is working far too long in to the night and far too early in the morning.

Maybe next weekend “sleeping in” will be a reality for someone somewhere but for some reason we think it is not likely.
